How to Reduce Double Eyelid Side Effects and Complications (Failed Surgery)
Learn how to prevent and treat triple eyelids and other common complications through pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative strategies.

I would like to discuss a topic covered at the April 2019 Korean Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery conference.
The official title is ‘How to Reduce #DoubleEyelidSideEffects,’ specifically focusing on #TripleEyelids and #MultipleCreases.
It has taken some time to organize these notes from the April presentation.
The methods were presented across three plans: pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative strategies to reduce complications.
In particular, there are prevention methods for #TripleEyelids divided into pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative stages.
If multiple creases already exist before surgery, they can be resolved through double eyelid surgery (with or without ptosis correction).

Ptosis correction alone can sometimes improve triple eyelids and sunken areas.

This patient underwent fat grafting in conjunction with the procedure.

In cases where #SunkenUpperEyelids are severe, significant #FatGrafting may be required, or #DermisFat grafts may be inserted.

When triple eyelids occur after surgery, it is often because the ptosis correction has loosened or the double eyelid fold has unraveled.

This can be corrected by performing the surgery properly again.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I fix triple eyelids that I've had since before surgery?
Yes, it can be resolved through double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction. If you already have multiple folds before surgery, improvement is possible with double eyelid surgery (with or without ptosis correction), and ptosis correction alone can improve triple eyelids and hollowness above the eyes.
What kind of surgery is needed for severe hollowness above the eyes?
If the hollowness above the eyes is excessive, fat grafting or dermal fat grafting may be necessary. When simple double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction is insufficient, autologous fat grafting or dermal fat grafting can fill the sunken areas, creating a more natural eye shape.
Why do triple eyelids form after double eyelid surgery?
It is highly likely because the double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction has loosened. Even if the surgery was successful, if the fixed area weakens over time and loosens, multiple folds can occur, and in this case, a meticulous revision surgery is needed to correct it.
Is there a way to prevent triple eyelid side effects?
Yes, it can be prevented by dividing it into three stages: before, during, and after surgery. It is important to appropriately combine ptosis correction, fat grafting, etc., depending on the patient's eye condition, and to identify the exact cause and take action to prevent loosening after surgery.
