Creating In-Out, In-Line, and Out-Line Double Eyelids
Learn about the three main types of double eyelids—In-line, In-out line, and Out-line—and how they can be customized through surgery.

Creating In-Out Line, In-Line, and Out-Line Double Eyelids
This content is based on a presentation given at Yonsei University College of Medicine, Severance Hospital, on June 24–25, 2017.
Double eyelid types are broadly classified into three categories: In-line, In-out line, and Out-line.

The terms commonly used by Korean surgeons are In-fold, Out-fold, and the intermediate form. In precise medical terminology, these are referred to as In-fold (tapered fold) and Out-fold (parallel fold), with the boundary between them defined as In-out.

This type of fold is an In-fold (In-line) double eyelid.
This is an Out-line (Out-fold) double eyelid.
This intermediate style is the In-out line double eyelid.
It is possible to transition from In to Out, In to In-out, or Out to In. The shape can be adjusted with great flexibility.

In fact, these are the most common types of cases. This is the appearance just one week after surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What types of double eyelid lines are there?
Broadly, there are three types: in-line, in-out line, and out-line. The accurate medical terms are infold (tapered fold) and outfold (parallel fold), with the intermediate form being the in-out line.
Can an in-line double eyelid be changed to an out-line?
Yes, it is possible. Through surgery, an in-line can be changed to an out-line or an in-out line, and conversely, an out-line can also be changed to an in-line, allowing for flexible shape changes.
How is the double eyelid line shape determined during surgery?
It is custom-determined based on the individual patient's eye condition and circumstances. Just as delicious food comes from good ingredients, the best results are achieved through customized surgery tailored to the patient's unique condition.
What do infold and outfold mean medically?
In medical terms, infold refers to a tapered fold, commonly called an in-line double eyelid. Outfold refers to a parallel fold and is the accurate term for an out-line double eyelid.
