Learn about the process of removing buried sutures to undo double eyelid surgery, addressing discomfort or aesthetic dissatisfaction with minimal tissue damage.

Restoring Your Eyes: Removing Buried Sutures and Undoing Double Eyelid Surgery

It has been a while since my last post.

Recently, many patients have been visiting to have their buried sutures removed after double eyelid surgery, so I would like to share some information on this topic.

Restoring Your Eyes: Removing Buried Sutures and Undoing Double Eyelid Surgery

There are various reasons why someone might be dissatisfied with their double eyelids after a buried suture procedure.

The two most common reasons for wanting to undo the procedure are:

1. A persistent ‘tugging’ or pulling sensation that feels uncomfortable after surgery.

2. Having had a faint natural crease before surgery, but realizing after the procedure that the original look was preferable.

In most cases, the double eyelid crease will disappear once the sutures are removed.

However, in very rare instances, the crease may persist even after removal.

It is important to understand that this procedure is specifically for ‘suture removal’ rather than a guaranteed ‘crease reversal’ surgery.

Furthermore, if you are experiencing a pulling sensation, it is best to have the sutures removed as soon as possible. If left for too long, the internal adhesions may not resolve even after the thread is gone, causing symptoms to persist.

To prevent tissue damage, the sutures are removed through tiny punctures without making a full incision. Using years of expertise, I perform the removal through these microscopic holes rather than a traditional cut.

To avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings regarding whether the threads were successfully removed, I take photos of the extracted sutures as shown here.

While you can return to the original clinic where you had the surgery, it is a fact that removing these sutures can be difficult without significant experience.

Please do not worry and feel free to visit for a consultation.
